South Carolina State University Poster Design

Size (13x19)
I was the third place winner in South Carolina State University’s 2nd annual Hip Hop Symposium; the message of the program was to speak out against black on black crime. The concept for my design came from research into the hip hop culture and how black on black crime makes up for most crimes committed in the United States of America. Hip Hop was created as a way to get people off of the streets and to bring them together and allow them to use their voice as a weapon, which became the inspiration for my quote. From there I found an image of an old microphone and used a threshold to add more gritty feel on the microphone.

Ideograph

This design I wanted to create for the soul purpose to make people stop and think. I connected with the issue of people having preconceived notions of Pitbulls being harmful animals. So I decided to place a silhouette of a pitbull inside of a stop sign as a way to get the viewer to stop and have that be the first thing they see and to start forming questions as to why there was a dog in a stop sign. From there I incorporated text to establish my point of stop assuming that pitbulls are harmful and violent. I also have printed this design on a couple of shirts.

This is a design that I created for my dad. Something fun and silly to pass the time.

This design came from taking a form of architecture and simplifying it to create a multiple functioning logo for various designs. Once the logo was created, I incorporated a set of graphic standards from something very complex to establish proper use of the design. I really just wanted to make something fun and creative from some very complex.

Poster Design

Size (11x17)
This is my entry for the Cooper River Bridge Run poster contest. My idea was to create a design that was clean, bold, and typographically driven. I started playing with the text required for the poster to determine where it fit best on the page. From there I wanted to created a simplistic version of the bridge, blow it up, and engulf most of the page. I chose to use a dark blue and white white to symbolize South Carolina. With the help of a pantone swatch book picked a bright orange to make the text pop off the page.

Logo Redesign

Original Design

My Design

The Upper King Street Design District was seeking a new to logo to represent their growing design presence in the area. After researching the design walk to get a feel for the district, I decided I to create a logo that had modern feel and would showcase the different design industries of Upper King Street. Although my design wasn't chosen, I really enjoyed going through the research and design process.

Non-Profit Design

This design was inspired by the first ever Designer Showhouse to benefit Children in Crisis. My idea was to create a house divided into fours in order to represent the concept that each room would be designed differently to promote the local interior designers involved. Since the benefit was for children, I chose a soft and playful color - a light shade of blue.

Ad Redesign

Class Project. Although the original (on the right) was all typographically based which I love, I didn't feel like the ad reached out and grabbed me like it could have. I felt the need to add some imagery and pose a question to hook the viewer in to thinking that Money Magazine could benefit them.

7inch Cover Design

This is a 7 inch package design for Jawbreaker’s “Kiss the Bottle” ep. From the context of the lyrics to the song, I wanted to design something that would create a feeling of loneliness. After finding the right image, I changed it to a duotone image to add to the texture of the design. I also to have the band's name overlay into the background and appear like it is was part of the wall. I gave the additional text a grunge looking feel to inspire a clean but messy look.

Bookcover

Size (9 x 21)
This project was an opportunity given to me by the author S. Lee Cox to design and layout the book jacket for his upcoming novel “A World Without Monsters.” The novel is a bit of an emotional drama, so for the cover image I wanted to create something that was dark and would foreshadow the events of the book. Since the book is based around an older couple, I used the imagery of a black shadow represent these demons within.

Low Country Ramblings

This was my final layout at Charleston Magazine, and the one I that am most proud of. It was featured in the February 2010 issue. Before I did this piece I did some smaller layouts and fine tuning my Photoshop skills, so it was fun to be creative with a two page magazine spread! (I didn't design the ad, I just did the layout and picture choices)
